I like Good Good. The different challenges within the game (like worst ball, the rough is lava, knockout, etc.) are something I would love to try with my friends. That’s how I felt about match play when I saw Rick and Pete doing it. I didn’t know that was a thing. But Good Good is definitely different. They’re coming into a space—an industry really—created by Rick and Pete. I mean, name another if you can, but they’re the OGs.
But even Good Good lost a bit of their flavor when Micah and Grant left. There’s something about the camaraderie mixed with competition that makes these videos what they are. Pete is off competing with himself to become, honestly, a stellar player. Rick has Guy with him a lot, which tacitly admits Rick needs someone to bounce off of. And Guy is awesome. He clearly has a heart of gold and is a great player. But you don’t get the sense of competitiveness that we got with Pete. They obviously still have that too. Problem is Pete is crushing it; Rick is struggling.
And that along with what I’m about to say comes from a very empathetic place, but Rick has sort of cast himself in this scrappy underdog role. He’s good, but all his videos lately have been this feeling of, “on the verge of greatness.” I think we can all relate, but if you go back to the old days, the sense was more like, “we’re good but don’t always play to our potential…but we are still having fun.” It’s lost that. I loved it because it gave me a glimpse of someone who could play better than I could hope to play still not playing their best all the time. It was a completely eye opening moment watching these pga pros scramble for par or even bogey.
So I think what happened to that vibe is this. That competitive spirit is not there like it was. Rick is stuck competing against himself. For Pete, it’s made him better doing that, but he’s lost the fight and humility that comes with it. For Rick, he is no longer the underdog, he’s the wounded dog. Forgive me for saying so, but that’s what it is. He’s struggling as he always has. He’s even better than he was, particularly in his short game. But he never gets a sense of victory that came from his bouts with Pete. Guy is great, but he’s team Rick.
I think this is typified in the recent video with Grant Horvat when Grant said, “I’m rooting for Rick.” We all are!! That’s the problem…kinda.
Somewhere along the way (this is the other thing), this became Rick’s job. I get it. That’s music for me. It’s my job now and there’s more pressure to be good. There’s a sense of urgency that stifles the joy and creativity that I used to have. There’s a sense of demand that makes me want to hang it up when I come home; whereas I used to be eager to get home so I could play my guitar or work on that song, whatever it was at the time. There’s no way around that without the conscious effort to find your passion for it again. And just being better at it isn’t enough. You have to learn about life through it. It has to make you better than you were. It’s why we play. It’s why I play. And like singing at my best, being in the moment, when I swing for the sheer joy of it, I’m at my best. You can’t try to do your best. You kill it.
Rick will never read this, but if he did, I’d tell him to just find the fire again. Forget about Good Good. Those lads will never be you. You can be proud of them and of yourself for paving the way, but they aren’t your competition. You aren’t even your competition, and Guy is definitely not. Pete is. Crush him, and have fun.
I really miss the the Rick and Pete content. The Golfbidder challenges and the matches around the world. Never forget when that fox stole Ricks headcover 😂
This is – by far!! – my favorite golf shot on YouTube. Mostly because of the wonderful tone of voice from Peter Finch and the smile on Rick’s face coming out of the trench. Awesome.
Rick you are two different golfers, we have seen you full shank a 60 yard pitch in the fairway and now we have seen you clip an impossible shot 4 ft from the pin. absolute class! haha
The feeling that makes all us duffers come back for the next round. Unreal shot Rick.
The days of Rick and Pete are still my favorite YouTube golf videos, even with Good Good on the table.
Someone tell good good to get off the table man!
Good Good is honestly pretty damn Bad Bad. Idk why, I just don’t like any of them.
God those course vlogs used to hit different

I’ll never forget seeing this shot for the first time. So solid
Love this one… ❤ Miss Pete and Rick (more) together. Golfbidder challenge was (and is) epic 😊
Back when Rick was still in his honeymoon phase with golf. Cannot do wrong. Huge smile.
He’s been playing for since he was like 15 or whatever and he has blaring holes in his game. You’d think he’d be more solid.
@John when you play for so long it’s very easy for your technique to get worse after so long especially when he was so busy coaching
I was in a very similar creek last summer. I got my SW to get me out and a few yards closer to the green. I was happy with that
I know this isnt mega old but i miss the first ever course vlogs with rick and pete ❤
Love rick for the fact that he laughed at himself
I love how he just walked up to it set his feet and whacked it..
Dude. I feel this I’ll do this with my wedges and then duff my driver and it’s so hard not to scream🤣🤣🤣
I really miss the the Rick and Pete content. The Golfbidder challenges and the matches around the world. Never forget when that fox stole Ricks headcover 😂
That shot came out clean and crisp! GREAT Result too!
My last notification from you was your worst ever. Glad to see you in the up Rick 😂😂
I mind watching this back in the day . Outstanding effort

We really need more rick + pete content. Please make this a regular thing again!!

And this is why we chase that little ball around the field. These moments make it all worthwhile
I miss these days. No production crew, not over produced. Just two guys, a camera and great golf.
Nice shot Rick!! One day I’ll get there…maybe 😂
