  1. Glad to see you back to your roots! Been a long time subscriber you’ve got me through very hard times in my life! Keep up the good work Rick good luck with everything ahead!

  2. Thank you for this video. Was really glad to see what a real practice session should look like at the range

  3. Perfect timing, as my long game has been appalling and my scores have blown up over the last month or so! Looking forward to this!

  4. GL Rick, I’m looking forward to both your long game and short game being perfect soon ❤🎉

  5. Great content and advice Rick. The problem I have with my local top tracer range is that the range balls don’t go as far as normal balls, so working on club distances is not easy. It was however great for comparing hybrid, long iron and fairway wood in terms of flight, distance and ease.

    1. Great point , I noticed that at my Top Tracer range also, In general I see a 20-30 yard discrepancy with my woods and a 10-15 yard difference with my irons, The system is a lot of fun and helps with aiming direction and strike consistency but there’s no way I’m taking those yardages to the course in my memory.

    2. Top tracer should be clever enough in my opinion to get average drop off distance on range balls and apply it as a percentage to your shots using the range balls on the display. This would be more helpful as I 100% agree with you ! Even pre-programmed to ‘select preferred ball’ based on data so you choose pro v1 , supersoft etc.

    3. Toptracer should have the ability to convert actual distances into expected distances when using proper golf balls. Look for that option.

    4. not 100% sure on how it works but i have seen a ‘ball compensation’ option on top tracer accounting for using range balls. like i said not sure how accurate it is but might good to average the actual distance and ball compensation distance to get a relatively more accurate gauge on your distances.

  6. REALLY GREAT IDEA ON HOW TO PRACTICE RICK. That is the one part of the game that we as amateurs do not do enough of. But if we do not figure out were we are going wrong, then we never no were to begin to fix the problems. GREAT VIDEO SHIELS ARMY!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I “play a hole” at the range as well. I think it helps switching from long to short clubs and back, which is really what happens on the course. I’ll start out with D, then hit a wood/long iron, then a mid/short iron, and then a wedge at a target. I like to think it helps, but then again, yesterday I had an absolutely terrible time out on the course 😀

  8. Great content about your practice session. It has helped me understand to structure my practice sessions. Thank you Rick

  9. Gotta love the “I need to practice more” and “I’m working on my swing” videos we get from Rick every 6 months

    So relatable

    1. Yeah, his practice cycle every six months could be reduced to 1 time a month and I’d be all for it! 😊

  10. Always good to see how other people practice. I have watched several of your playing videos and while you hit some really good shots, you still have misses both ways. I would think that finding that swing where if you miss you know what side it will be on would help you out the most.

  11. I recently mapped out different courses I play with the shots I would take based on my current game. It’s been so good for working on process, visualising shots and I think course management too. I’ve been on the course for 6 months and these are all areas I’ve felt completely lost on.

  12. Great advice for practicing on the range. Really working to hit my irons better. Keep it up Rick!

  13. Great set of tips for maximizing your practice time. I follow a similar approach when I hit balls, warm up with a 7 iron focusing on make a good solid strike. I then hit several shots with 5, 4, and 3. I usually will hit the driver with an emphasis on shot shape. I will finish my session hitting 10-15 balls with my 58 degree wedge at a target green that’s at 90 yards with a 30 foot diameter. I keep track of how many shots I hit on the green. Unfortunately, there isn’t a TopTracer facility near where I live. Thanks for sharing!

  14. This was a fun video! Definitely going to use these techniques for my own practice sessions on my home simulator!

  15. The biggest take away from this is, when practicing have a plan, what specifically do you want to work on and how are you going to work on it. Just like Rick is saying.

  16. I’m a brand new golfer (been going to the range for a week now) and it’s really reassuring seeing Rick start with wedge. Too many people I know just swing driver out the gate and sometimes that’s the only club they swing. Starting off with the wedge and just trying to aim the ball is my favorite way to warm up so far.

  17. Rick, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but one thing I’ve seen is your mindset on the course. When you hit a bad shot, you let it control almost the whole round. A positive mindset can help a ton. Great video!

  18. I feel like i share a similar “go-to” swing flaw which is a bit of a quick transition that throws off timing. I’ve always thought Rick plays best when he slows down the transition. To try and share what it feels like – transitioning too quickly makes you feel like your “behind” which causes a lot of blocks. After hitting a bunch of blocks, you naturally start trying to release your hands to control the face. Rick, hope you see this and is something you can experiment with as a possible little cue to check for yourself since I know it helps me too! For reference I’m a 2 handicap so I’m no pro, but certainly understand working through weird slumps in a golf swing.

  19. Has one of the best indoor simulators ever and still hits the range! Love what you do Rick keep it up!!

  20. I’m heading to Manchester with the family in August, hoping to get to that driving range again (Big bonus if I get to see you there!) Can second toptracer as being the number 1 technology for driving range! I’ve posted a few decent scores on it also, still top of back 9 at St Andrew’s 😜 Keep the great content coming Rick 👍
