“…MacGregor has gone a little downhill.” That’s like saying the Hindenburg had a bit of a rough landing. 😉
I do enjoy the budget equipment reviews.
I like that Rick reviews cheap package sets more often than anything from major brands at this point
It’s whoever pays him the most for the advertisement. His channel has become one long paid promotion.
Yep it has and these cheap golf brand reviews are the new trend on YouTube now, and getting very dull to be honest
Honestly, we have pretty much hit the peak of what the major brands can do, barring conformance changes. 90% of golfers haven’t broken 80, they don’t need to buy anything top of the line. But they do, obviously.
@Gary Nash 🎉
I bought the Costco Callaway X set ten or so years ago. Biggest mistake ever. Very bad clubs. Wasn’t very cheap either. Later I managed to get much better clubs second-hand for much less.
Those MacGregor clubs may be the best value, but they’re not when you also leave Costco with 2 paddle boards, a barbecue, and a garden shed you weren’t planning on.
🤣😂
🤣
OK, you win the internet for today
Man, I do need a new shed..!

Love living vicariously through Rick, especially with the Break75 series. Stage 4 cancer and a dozen or so abdominal surgeries hindered the turn on my swing a bit haha 😅. Keep it going RS and Guy as well 👍🏼
Keep fighting bro 💪
God bless ya pal, my turns no good and i don’t have any serious health issues
get well soon!
@Code4 dragon get well soon my man. Peace & love to you & your family.
Keep up the good fight hopefully one day you’ll get out to the course again and win your swing back. 👍👍
CANCER SUCKS !!!!!
I’m enjoying these budget reviews more than the big name ones at the moment.
Great video Rick as a new golfer myself package sets are perfect for what I’m trying to accomplish right now which is just get comfortable with golf so great vid pal keep it up 👍
My first set of clubs was a wilson box set at a similar price and the driver was the first club to be replaced for me as well.
Next was adding on some proper wedges, before I replaced the wood and hybrid. It really is a good way to start playing and figuring out if you want to keep playing and to learn a bit more about what you want and need from equipment you have no experience with and no idea what to look for. Once you learn a few things, the 2nd hand market is so much less overwhelming to use as well. The ammount of golf clubs you can find out there thats barely used is quite large if you know where to look and for what to look for.
Also, as you replace things from the box set you end up having a spare set of clubs for someone who wants to start playing, someone who just want to go hit some balles and havent brought their set or whatever. My original box set has recruited atleast 2 other players the sport after I gave it away to a colleague
Great video. I currently have the Kirkland Wedges from Costco but I feel like its time to upgrade. I would LOVE a video where you explain bounce and grind, what they are used for, and how to selct the best wedge based on your game/playing conditions.
Unless you’re shooting for sub +5-7 handicap, those wedges are still great/excellent. Unless budget doesn’t matter, then do whatever you want.
Love my Kirkland Wedges. Unless you are ready to pay $200 per wedge you can’t beat the Kirklands.
Try md golf wedges recommended and not expensive
LOVE these reviews. I found a set of Ping i-3 O-Size at the thrift shop for $3 a club! 4-9 with a SW and gap wedge (U)! Lamkin grips still in good shape! Best deal of the year for this guy!
Loved the last drive. Rick wasn’t showing us the difference between his Ping and set package set. He simply couldn’t have 276 on the leader board he need one over 300 yards. Second on the table for the day 🙂 Love this guy
Hi Rick. Loved the video. Seems like a great package set that I would’ve bought myself if I was starting now. Unfortunately, I bought a few different budget clubs last year and this year to start my bag. I have the Slazenger V300 Graphite from Sports Direct and I’m looking to make an upgrade. I’m probably around a 30 handicapper at the moment because my consistency is awful. My budget is £100, and I was wondering what you think is the best driver someone like me can get for that proce point. I think I’m about average for club head speed and can still drive 230 yards on a good hit with this V300, but I think it’s time for an upgrade. Golfbidder shows a few options, but one I heard on your podcast was the Cobra F range. If I spent the extra 15 or 20 pounds, I could get the F6 + and I was wondering what you thought about that particular driver.
Not a bad set for a new golfer at a budget price. Thanks Rick. It was fun watching.
My very first set of clubs, at 12 years old, were a full set of MacGregor Tommy Armour Tourney Classics that my Dad purchased from the local pro shop for $50. Turned out to be a very collectible set that I played for years until I brought them in for regripping and the golf shop owner made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. Thanks for a nice review of entry level set of clubs and bringing back memories of my own first set…
I started watching you about 3 month ago and wow I’m into golf now big time. Iv only done 2 full 18 hole courses but I have done a fair few 18 hole par 3 courses and I managed to score my best round on the weekend 😀
I wonder how far you could hit the driver, Rick, if you swapped out the shaft for your own (if that were even possible). It would be interesting to know how much distance is lost from the head design compared to the shaft.
His Ping driver only carried 262.
@Justin Green He only had one swing at that though, after hitting a whippy shaft that he had to control to get any real distance.
The weakness in those packaged sets is usually the shaft and not the clubhead, especially for the driver, so I was somewhat surprised you were able to hit that driver with the whippy shaft! Otherwise that looks like a really good buy for a starter set.
Thanks for the review, and the enthusiasm you put into all the reviews you give.
As my first golf clubs set, I just bought two months ago a used (but like new) MacGregor set. Happy to see they could be not as bad as I imagined at first.
I love these reviews, its easy for a Pro to say “oh, you need to spend a thousand quid on a bag of bats or its not worth turning up”. As a high handicapper myself, that doesn’t play often enough, I want a club that gets the ball consistently into the air. Rick seems to no issue with giving cheap clubs an honest assessment and I trust that of he says they;re ok, then they’re ok!
You are so naive!. He’s been paid to tell you that these Clubs are worth it. This is a paid advertisement.
@mac man No you’re bitter because you dream of the day Charmin would give you 20 quid to recommend you wipe your arse with it. Jog on.
Absolutely loving how Rick couldn’t leave Trafford Golf Centre without making sure his name was in the Top 2 😂
