How Two Years of GIANT Grips Changed My Golf…
Grips are so interesting and are often overlooked! Love the long term review! Thanks Mate!
I work in Industrial Maintenance. And after a long day of work and sneaking in a range session my hands were sore. I changed to these grips and after a bit of an adjustment period I love them. No pain after practicing or playing. I understand they aren’t for everyone but they help me play more golf and that’s a win win.
I went from standard to midsize and have had massive improvements
I saw a big difference between standard and midsize. I way more control with the bigger grip. I’m going from midsize to oversize at the moment
Years ago I accidentally bought thicker grips, maybe what people are calling midsized, after my older brother basically bullied me into getting them regripped, and quite enjoyed them. Its made me interested about what grips to get if I get my current clubs regripped instead/before replacing them. Id have to try a jumbomax grip before committing it to probably the driver, maybe wood(s) & hybrid. Irons and wedges I dont think Id like unless it was a medical necessity like how this stared for Pete.
I swapped to the larger grips about a year ago and I haven’t looked back. My miss tended to be a bit of a hook and after getting use to the size difference in the grips, my ball striking has been so much better! I didnt go as large as you, I ended up with the Tour Series Standard Oversize grips as the larger ones were just a bit “too much” for me.
Loving the content Pete, keep it up!
My wife put oversized winn grips on her clubs as she has issues with carpal tunnel already. They make a huge difference for her. We were travelling a few weeks back and rented clubs with normal grips and she complained about her wrists throughout the round, so it’s definitely helpful for people with hand/wrist problems!
I grew up playing tennis competitively so when I took up golf at age 27, the small grips just felt so wrong. I ended up just building up tape and using mid-size grips but the weight gets too high… I want to try the jumbo max grips and I will eventually. Thanks for this feedback though Rick!!
Lol
I’m a former tennis trainer and coach and when I picked up golf 4 years ago I felt the same thing. Didn’t understand why grips were so thing. Missed the reasoning. Now gaming the JumboMax ultralite medium. So much better and will never go back. 👍🏻😎🤘🏻
Interesting about the gripping in the palm versus the fingers. I started working on my grip 2 seasons ago and fully went away from gripping it in the palm. I don’t feel like it changed a lot in my swing except that I was now more aware of how I was gripping it and it makes my setup a little more consistent. Now I have to try switching back and forth at the range and see about this “holding it off more” business.
As for the grip size, I’m perfectly happy and comfortable with my standard-sized grips and don’t suffer from any hand or wrist pain. I did for one season but it was something to do with something that completely changed in my swing overnight that had me hitting down hard on the ball and shanking, and I practiced on mats. Thankfully, that sorted itself out in a couple range sessions.
Totally agree with you. I’ve been using them for 18 months and love them. I’m playing the zen lite as there much better in wet conditions. Size wise go with your glove size.
I’ve battled with tennis elbow for the last 3 years and ended up having surgery. I have considered giving these a go to see if they would make a difference.
I’ve thought about this idea for quite a while and ended up putting the arthritic serrated ones on my sand wedge and five wood and have to say that initial thoughts are that I feel as if I have a more solid connection with the club….. time will tell but I will give them a good decent try out before either going the whole hog or reverting back to norm… so far though good feedback 🤔
I’ve done club assembly for a hobby and I experimented with oversized grips just to see whether they would be more comfortable. They were comfortable but I had problems releasing the club and tended to block the shot to right. I had to make swing adjustments and really struggled to shape shots with the oversized grips. Most of my friends that tried them had similar issues. They do help people with arthritis in their hands and other pain. Good to know they are helping with your hand pain. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve played with them for years now. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. The one thing I wasn’t aware of was how heavy some the grips were. It changed my swing weight by a lot. And I played like that for several years. Last year I switched to the light version (which is same weight as standard grips) and it made a world of difference.
Pete I have also struggled with wrist/hand pain, to the point of having to quit all together for 9 months now. Im a 6 hdcp and I really miss it. Im sure a lot of us would really love to hear a deeper explanation of what injuries you had and what part of the swing caused it. Grip pressure? Angle of attack?
Anyway, love the vid and def considering these now.
I’ve used these for 2 years now and would never go back. I struggled with terrible hand pain after a round and these grips have been transformative. My handicap went from 13 down to 8 as well so something’s working technically too. I don’t really analyse it too much though. I just put it down to feeling confident because I can hit without pain. Thanks for introducing me to the idea of these in the first place Pete.
100% agree. My wrist and hands would hurt after a small bucket. I switched to the jumbo and the pain went away. Also gives me more control. I have big hands so they also feel natural. Like a baseball bat
Noticed a difference from mid to jumbo. The super jumbo made me grip too hard… which made me wonder if I’d increase my chance of fatigue/injury.
I played mid sized for a number of years and then gradually moved over to Jumbo which is +1/8″. I like the way they feel and I have a hard time swinging a club with a standard sized grip any longer.
I upgraded to midsize grips because it just felt more logical in my hands. In the USA, most of us probably played a lot more baseball before we ever played golf, so the bigger grip feels right. I wonder if jumbo grips and a baseball grip might be the move…
