How Alex Fourie REALLY Felt While Visiting Ukraine Orphanage
Welcome back to Golf District. Having worked at Golf Digest for more than 13 years, I've been lucky to speak with lots of huge names. It's an unbelievable perk that never gets old, but none of those chats has left me feeling as in wonder as I was after talking to Alex Fourie. Alex isn't a PGA Trip star or a star golf player, but he's one heck of a player, and he should have to be well-known for what he's doing on and off the course. His transmittable mindset, however– specifically thinking about all he has been through– may be most fantastic.
Embraced by South African missionaries who were serving in Alabama, Fourie initially picked up a golf club within days of moving to his new home. Now, the PGA mentor pro is using his golf connections to return to the orphanage that kept him alive all those years back.
" My buddies keep sending me videos of my village and my town getting bombed," said Fourie, who grew up in the city of Cherkasy. There are 175 kids still residing in Fourie's previous orphanage, and with the Russian military shelling hospitals, schools and kids's houses, he couldn't just sit and enjoy from the safety of his house in Tennessee.
